repeat the last special character

I was wondering if a button could be added to repeat the last special character (e.g. ", /, &, *). When you are typing an URL you might use the slash character several times. For each quote, you will need the quote character twice. For each parenthesis remark you will need both an opening and a closing parenthesis.
Do you see any possibility to add such a button?
