Tillthey removed it by purpose to get rid of an extra button, swipe left instead
they could even remove the space buttons. as you can swipe right to add a space -

DominikA function to delete the Text in front of the Cursor like Delete in Windows would be nice. As far as I know its only possible to delete text left of the cursor.

Evan Stites-ClaytonHello awesome creators of typewise. I am a big fan of hexagonal design and I was THRILLED when I found out that you had reinvented the keyboard using such a layout for smartphones. I have been using this keyboard for the past week and it's definitely much easier to find the keys. I'm a tech founder myself and a part of a lot of hacker / founder communities. I am on the verge of recommending this product to all of my friends... except for one thing - the lack of a backspace yet... (to be cont'd)
-

Evan Stites-ClaytonWhy is it bad that you don't have a backspace key? There are two major reasons:
(1) The "back swipe" gesture is often captured as a keypress instead of a backswipe (at least for me). I'm definitely back swiping but I guess not enough for it to register as not just a key press. This creates an infuriating loop where you try to delete, accidentally type another letter, now you have two things to delete, etc. etc. -
26 Jul, '20
Evan Stites-Clayton(2) The Back swipe motion is not ergonomic. Compared to just tapping something, it is much more strenuous and prone to creating RSI. Particularly trying to do multiple back swipes in a row is very uncomfortable. I know there is the hold and swipe method for deletion - I think this is good when you really need to delete whole sentences, etc, but it is a pain to delete anything between 2-10 characters.

GuidoWhy a backspace Button? So we have more buttons like on a regular keyboard (probabely go back to regular keyboard would be the solution?)? I'm happy that there is no backspace button.

CloeThis would honestly be so nice as not every user has this keyboard so they can type as fast as possible. I think alt layoutsmare cool and i like learning new things so that's why i installed it. But a lack of any ability to easily backspace... i dint care about speed and tbh i'm glad i don't use a ton of puncutuation cause swiping is hard for me. It doesn't always hit my swipes so sometimes i end up adding in letters in this swiping game. Spoiler alert: i often lose. Just let us backspace button

JonLove the concept. I just cant reliably delete a single character. Just needs a simple backspace key.

-
18 Nov, '20
AlfYes, please add at least the option to enable a button for backspace! It’s the only thing that keeps me from using it, a button is just so much easier than swiping.
You could make it optional to:
Replace 123 with delete
Replace 😃 with 123
Add 😃 as swipe up gesture for enter button or just leave it, since all iphones since X already have a dedicated emoji button on the bottom left -

DaniI like the idea of Dominik
"A function to delete the Text in front of the Cursor like Delete in Windows would be nice. As far as I know its only possible to delete text left of the cursor."
You do not need that the gestures of both spacekeys operate in the same way. So one gesture to swipe from left to right on the left spacekey might really can do that, as long it is technicaly implementable. -

Ian CossetteI would add this in the top bar or in the lower left or right hand corner
-

Marc GuttI like to have a seperate del / backspace button on the numbers page. The reason is, that some websites use wysiwyg editors, which do not delete quote or code blocks with the usual back swiping. As an example you could check a forum which uses the Invision Community Software. At the moment I parallel use the hackers keyboard if this problem occurs.

E. GurrI miss the backspace with typewise! This is an essential key to me and without it I'm just way too slow!
Isn't it possible to make the button available as an option? So only the people who need the key would have the key and the others could use the keyboard as before...
I would very much like to use typewise ... but without backspace the keyboard will not come on my device! -

sunnydaysthe lack of a backspace key made me stop using the app. swiping is only useful to delete multiple words or whole sentences, bit it's a real f! pain for a single or few caracters. you claim that your keyword helps to type faster, but not without this key. that's the opposite actually... we enter an insane loop of adding new letters while trying to delete a few, that we have to delete as well. i'm shocked you did not not even think of adding this as an option. that's super user-unfriendly! it sounds like you're thinking too much here,it's a no brainer. uninstalled just because of it (and the single quote on long press that is stupid too)

smmaPlease add a delete key. The keyboard has yet to recognize my left hold swipe as a delete. Its easier to leave the typo than mess with it got 1-2 minutes trying to delete properly.
You could ad it as a handicap/accessibility option. But it is awful without it. Although it is a blessing your dictionary is so good to compensate a bit. -

JennaI can't use the app if there is no backspace/delete key. The suggestion to "just swipe" is totally inadequate. Swipe what? In what direction? How can this gesture be precise enough to delete one character in the middle of a word? Simple solution: Add a backspace/delete key!
-

qui MergedAn erase-button would be nice, otherwise exact deletion is difficult.
Special signs should be posted on top of the letters.
Extra design with numbers included would would be a nice option.
Typewise learns words or my email adress much slower than for example swiftkey -

CaballoJust added (and quickly deleted) this app. Still no single backspace key. Only swipe which is hit or miss whether or not you get a single or multiple character(s).
Looks cool, but impractical. -

Patrick H.Typewise Hexagon desperately needs a backspace button. It could be added to the unused half-hexagon to the right of the '?' button. And even possibly a delete button in the half-hexagon to the left of 'period' button.

Jesse S.I would love the option to turn the left space (empty hex) into a backspace button. Or make a quick left swipe delete a letter instead of adding a space.
But if I had my choice, a full delete button with swipe gestures. For instance the left hex on tap could backspace a letter, a left swipe from it could delete the previous word. a right swipe could delete the next letter. So if you get the cursor in the middle of the word you can delete left or right or the whole word depending on how you use the button.
And again, this would be a feature you can turn on or off if you dont want it just dont turn it on. Make it a pro feature too. -
